Out Of The Blue

   May 18 – June 25, 2009

Out Of The Blue presented original artworks that investigate Blue--the color, emotions, symbols, and associations. Featured were works by 61 St. Louis regional artists working in a variety of media.

During July and August 2009, portions of "Out Of The Blue" were selected to travel to two locations: The Centre, Rolla, MO,  with works on exhibit June 29-July 31, 2009; and The Heights, Richmond Heights, MO, with works on display June 29-August 21, 2009.

Serving as jurors for Out Of The Blue were artists Michael Byron, Professor, Associate Dean of Faculty, Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Art, Washington University in St. Louis, and Douglass Freed, former Director, Daum Museum of Contemporary Art, Sedalia, MO.

For this exhibition, 133 St. Louis regional artists submitted 219 artworks for our jurors' consideration. From those entries, the jurors selected works by 61 artists. The exhibit includes beaded work, ceramics, digital media, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, and more.

Art Saint Louis presented a special concurrent exhibition on view during the "Out Of The Blue" exhibit: "Homage to the Founders Edition 1: Nancy Newman Rice," on view in the ASL South Gallery. This exhibition featured oil paintings by the St. Louis-based artist and founding member of Art Saint Louis. Nancy Newman Rice's work was courtesy of Duane Reed Gallery, St. Louis.
