In addition to our annual Grape Arts event, Art Saint Louis presents a variety of unique special events.
HOPS ART 2008
Last year, many of you participated in our newest annual tradition, Hops Art. Response to the inaugural event was a resounding success. So . . . we decided to do it again!
This year, Hops Art will have a new look. Held on Saturday, October 18, 2008, 6-9 p.m., Hops Art will take place at the new Art Saint Louis gallery. In addition to the digital image presentation, each participating artist will be invited to exhibit one piece of artwork in a special gallery exhibit presented during the event.
The aim of Hops Art is to bring artists together with collectors, writers, gallery owners, and art lovers from the St. Louis community to mingle and discover what new and exciting artistic endeavors are taking place in the St. Louis region.
Hops Art will include:
- A projected, ongoing visual presentation of images submitted by each participating artist;
- 4-6 laptop computers featuring the visual image presentation; an exhibit of one artwork by each participating artist;
- In addition to the stellar artworks, which will also be for sale, you won't want to miss the scrumptious nosh and tasty brews. The following beers will be flowing: three varieties of Schlafly brew, Pilsner Urquell, Miller Chill, Peroni, Samuel Adams and Pabst Blue Ribbon. Hors d'oeuvres will be provided by Onesto Pizzeria & Trattoria, Fu Manchu and Crabcakes Creative.

As a special bonus: all Hops Art guests will have their names entered into a drawing to win a Saint Louis Art Museum Gift Basket including free admission passes to "Action/Abstraction: Pollock, de Kooning, and American Art, 1940-1976," the new Special Exhibition on view at the Saint Louis Art Museum October 19, 2008-January 11, 2009.

PARTICIPATING ARTISTS:
Hops Art artwork & exhibit requirements:
- Two-dimensional artworks may not exceed 18”x24” in size.
- No ceiling-suspended works, no works that rely on use of the Internet, no multi-piece installations.
- Artworks may be delivered to the Art Saint Louis gallery October 13–16, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
- Pieces may be taken home after the Hops Art event on Saturday, Oct. 18th (at 9 p.m.) or picked up from the gallery October 20–21, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
- Art Saint Louis retains a 30% donation on sales resulting from the exhibit. All sales will be handled through Art Saint Louis. Work remains property of the artist until sold. Artists assume responsibility for delivery of sold artwork to buyer.
Registration:
- Artist participation is $25. This fee covers inclusion of one artwork for exhibition, 5 images for the projected presentation, and one ticket. Additional tickets are $35 each.
- Non-attending fee is $15 if you are unable to attend Hops Art, but would like your artwork exhibited & slides shown during the event.

- $55 Discounted Rate registers you for Hops Art ($25 value) and enrolls you as a member of Art Saint Louis for one-year at the Artist level ($45 value).

AN EVENING WITH HARPER BARNES
Thank you to everyone who joined us Thursday, August 21, 2008 from 5:30-7 p.m. for An Evening in the Gallery with celebrated St. Louis journalist and author Harper Barnes, who discussed his third book, Never Been A Time: The 1917 Race Riot That Sparked the Civil Rights Movement (Walker & Company, 2008).
Harper Barnes is a longtime editor and cultural critic for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. A former editor of the Boston Phoenix, he has also written for the Atlantic Monthly, Rolling Stone and numerous other publications. A St. Louis native, Mr. Barnes recently published his third book, Never Been A Time, which explores the 1917 East St. Louis race riots that sparked the civil rights movement across America.

Art Saint Louis teamed up with the St. Louis Public Library Foundation’s Young Literati to present this casual evening during which guests had the opportunity to converse with Mr. Barnes and each other about his latest book as well as view and discuss Art Saint Louis' new exhibition, “America the Beautiful & Beyond". Never Been A Time was available for purchase through booksellers Left Bank Books at this event.
An Evening in the Gallery with Harper Barnes was free & open to the public. Wine hosting provided by Mary Michelle Winery, with complimentary hors d’oeuvres, and sweets from Companion. Click here to download the flyer.

METROPOLIS WINE CLUB
Pinots, Patterns and Pixels

Thank you to the Metropolis Wine Club for visiting Art Saint Louis on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Over 80 guests joined us to enjoy varieties of Pinots (Noir, Grigio, Gris and Blanc) while socializing and viewing the "Patterns and Pixels" exhibition at Art St Louis' new Downtown gallery.

ART SAINT LOUIS AT THE FAIR
THANK YOU to our fabulous volunteers and to everyone who stopped in to visit the Art Saint Louis t-shirt painting booth throughout the day at at Fair Saint Louis on July 4, 2008.
With a full line-up of talent and activities complimented by a beautiful day, this year's Fair St. Louis enjoyed spectacular crowds. The Art Saint Louis booth was hoppin' with young artists creating their very own wearable masterpieces. A great deal of fun was had by guests and volunteers.

Our wearable art featured the winning design created by Mrs. Callahan's 4th Grade Art Class at Kennerly Elementary, St. Louis. The compeition was open to classrooms across the bi-state area and the winning piece was selected by Art Saint Louis' artist members Gail Cassily and Libby Reuter and guest artist Anne Martin.

ART SAINT LOUIS SERVES IT UP at rBAR

rBar's "Serving a Cause" event generously provided that all cash tips went to Art Saint Louis, and our little fund raiser was a success--so, thank you to everyone who stopped by and helped a great cause.
GALLERY SHOWER
Thank you to our great volunteers, staff, generous donors, and the 70+ guests who joined us on Sunday, February 24, 2008 for our Gallery Shower event held at Art Saint Louis' NEW home at 555 Washington Avenue, Suite 150 (1st floor) in downtown St. Louis.

In addition to refreshments, games and a raffle, guests were able to meet Board members and fellow Art Saint Louis members, get a sneak peek at the new space, get a sense of what renovation work needs to be done, make pledges for purchases, volunteer time, and donate money towards the renovation costs.

On January 5, 2008, Art Saint Louis joined The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis for Kids ArtStart, a special free event. ASL Marketing & Development Director Kate Poss worked with over 100 kids (and parents) to create one-of-a-kind marble art masterpieces.

Kids ArtStart is a series of free family events focused on the arts. Held at The Rep on the first Saturday morning of each month from October through April, these events provide young children with an introduction to the arts and give families an opportunity to share the experience. Kids ArtStart events are interactive, entertaining and fun for all ages.
Kids ArtStart was hosted by The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis with local arts organizations and members of the artistic community partnering in the presentations.
UNWIND
Thank you to everyone who joined us throughout the Fall of 2007 for the monthly UNWIND events held at The Westin St. Louis Hotel's Clark Street Grill.

UNWIND was presented by The Westin St. Louis Hotel, Alive Magazine and Art Saint Louis. Each month guests were treated to complimentary appetizers and beverages, live music and special art projects with Art Saint Louis member artists.

HOPS ART
Art Saint Louis' first annual event was held Sunday, October 21, 2007, 3:30-7PM at Schlafly Tap Room, 2100 Locust Street in downtown St. Louis.
