Art St. Louis XXIV, The Exhibition

This year's 24th annual "Art St. Louis, The Exhibition" was open to artists 21+ residing in the St. Louis region & 200 mile radius. The all media non-thematic exhibit will feature original works created in the past two years.
*** The exhibit is currently in the process of being juried. All artists who submitted work for this exhibit will be notified of the juror's results by Monday, October 6, 2008. ***
Serving as juror is
Mr. Mark Masuoka, Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Omaha, NE since 1973. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Hawaii and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, MI. Mr. Masuoka previously established the Mark Masuoka Gallery in Las Vegas, NV, served as the Director of the Nevada Institute for Contemporary Art in Las Vegas, and served as Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, CO. Currently, he serves on the Omaha Public Art Commission and on the Board of Trustees for the Alliance of Artists Communities.

"Creativity Kills: Reviving A Civic Imagination"
Mark Masuoka, Executive Director and Chief Curator for the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha Nebraska, will present an overview of contemporary art filtered through the lens of civic engagement. Masuoka will discuss how creativity kills predetermined outcomes and combats social complacency, apathy and the lack of imagination within our society. His lecture will highlight examples of the positive impact artists are having on communities and neighborhoods in Omaha. "Art is the 21st century weapon of choice for catalyzing social, cultural and economic development, " says Masuoka.
